Anti-Scam
At Kaown we want every job search and every hire to be safe. The vast majority of Listings on kaown.com are genuine, but as on any online platform a small number of bad actors may try to scam job seekers or employers. This page explains how to recognise and avoid scams, and how to report anything suspicious.
Warning signs of a job scam
- You’re asked to pay a “registration”, “training”, “deposit”, or “processing” fee before starting.
- The salary or pay seems far too high for the work or experience required.
- You’re offered the job with no real interview, or hired within minutes of contact.
- The employer only communicates through WhatsApp, Telegram, or personal email — never an official one.
- You’re asked to share your bank PIN, OTP, passwords, Aadhaar/ID copies, or card numbers.
- The message is full of spelling and grammar mistakes, or pressures you to “act now”.
- You’re asked to receive money and forward it on, or to buy gift cards / vouchers.
- A link in the message leads to a website that looks slightly “off” or isn’t kaown.com.
How to protect yourself
- Never pay to get a job. Real recruiters do not charge candidates.
- Keep conversations on the platform where possible, and keep records of messages.
- Verify the employer. Search the company name, check their official website and reviews.
- Protect your data. Don’t share bank, OTP, password, or ID details with strangers.
- Meet safely. For in-person meetings, choose a public place and tell someone where you’re going.
- Trust your instincts. If an offer feels too good to be true, it usually is.
Advice for employers / advertisers
- Be cautious of applicants who ask for advance payment or personal banking access.
- Verify candidate documents through official channels before sharing sensitive company information.
- Never send money or goods to a candidate before a verified, in-person or formal agreement.

If you have been scammed
If you have lost money or shared sensitive information, contact your bank immediately to secure your accounts, and report the incident to your local police or national cybercrime authority. In India, you can report online financial fraud at the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or by calling the helpline 1930. Then let us know so we can remove the offending listing.
